BOWIE, Md. — The CVS Pharmacy on Laurel-Bowie Road will be closing in December, the pharmacy's corporate communications staff announced on Tuesday.
The CVS Pharmacy located at 6920 Laurel-Bowie Road, inside the Bowie Plaza shopping plaza is scheduled to close on Tues., Dec. 3. The next nearest CVS location is about two miles away, on the corner of High Bridge Road and Annapolis Road.
"All prescriptions will be transferred to the nearby CVS Pharmacy at 6001 High Bridge Road to ensure patients have uninterrupted access to pharmacy care," CVS Pharmacy said on Tuesday. "Patients can always choose to fill their prescriptions at any CVS Pharmacy, or pharmacy of their choice, if another is more convenient."
There are four other CVS pharmacies in Bowie, including two inside of Target stores.
Employees at the Laurel-Bowie Road will not lose their jobs, according to CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault.
"Employees are being offered comparable roles within the company," Thibault said Tuesday.
CVS did not immediately give a reason for closing the Bowie Plaza pharmacy, although other D.C.-area CVS pharmacies have closed after robberies. In February, a D.C. CVS in Columbia Heights closed after it was repeatedly targeted on new shipment days, with thieves stealing merchandise before it even got to the store's shelves.
Since the beginning of summer 2024, there have been 12 robberies and shoplifting incidents inside Bowie Plaza, according to Bowie Police Department crime reports.
