Crash involving tractor trailer in Montgomery County leaves 1 dead

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A 54-year-old Maryland man died Monday morning after a crash involving a dump truck. 

Rodney Lee Gibson, 54, of Frederick, was pronounced dead after his dump truck collided with a 2019 Ford Transit van. 

According to Maryland State Police, the crash happened around 10 a.m. on Northbound Interstate 270 and Maryland Route 109.

Investigators said Gibson's truck struck a bridge abutment and overturned into a ravine. No other injuries have been reported. 

Traffic is slow moving around the crash scene. The right lane on Southbound I-270 has reopened, and the left lane on Northbound I-270 has reopened. Southbound lanes on I-270 at Old Hundred Road remain closed. Anyone driving in the area is told to expect continued delays. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
