BOWIE, Md. — A child suffered severe burns after a house fire in Bowie early Monday.
Crews with the Prince George's County Fire and EMS responded to Penn Manor Lane, off of Hall Road and Central Avenue, around 1:05 a.m. after a report of a fire. Once there they found a fire on the second floor of the two-story home.
The fire was under control in about 15 minutes after arrival, Public Information Director for the Prince George's County Fire and EMS, Alan Doubleday told WUSA9. Firefighters learned that the fire started in an unoccupied bedroom in the upstairs of the home and extended into the attic.
The mom was about to get her two children out of the house. One of the children suffered critical injuries and was taken to a local trauma center. The second child was not injured in the blaze, but the mom suffered some burns. The severity of her burns were not released.
Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
