Many gather to support students, Bowie Police Department in special basketball game

The bleachers were full as people brought tickets and gathered around for a good cause.

BOWIE, Md. — The Bowie Police Department hosted an event Saturday that brought out more than 250 people in support of local students and law enforcement.

The event, Ballin with the Badge, was held at Benjamin Tasker Middle School, where a special basketball game was played. Members of the City of Bowie Police Department took the court against members of the boys and girls basketball team from the middle school.

The bleachers were full as people brought tickets and gathered around for a good cause. The goal of the game was to build better relationships between people who work in law enforcement and people who live in the community they serve.

The Washington Wizards and Mystics provided some giveaway items as well like bucket hats and noise makers. The tickets purchased helped raise money which will benefit the middle school's parent, teacher student organization and the Bowie Police explorers' program.

And as for who won, the student athletes took home the win with a score of 80 -71.
