Here's where 21 new speed cameras will be placed in Bowie

There will be a 30-day warning period in place to allow drivers to adjust to the new camera locations.

BOWIE, Md. — The City of Bowie is hoping to get drivers to change their behaviors by expanding their speed camera program with 21 newly established locations.

The cameras will be operated seven days a week for 24 hours a day, with the goal of reducing speeding violations while also decreasing the potential for traffic accidents in city limits.

There will be a 30-day warning period in place to allow drivers to adjust to the new camera locations, which starts on Nov. 1. During that time, motorists exceeding the speed limit by 12 mph will receive warnings rather than receiving a citation.

After that span of time, a citation will be issued to the registered owner of the vehicle if recorded going at least 12 mph over the speed limit. The maximum fine per violation is $40.
