The search began on Easter Sunday, April 9, when a person was reported to be in Lake Churchill in Germantown, this sparked searches on land and with boats in the water. After an exhaustive search, officials did not locate anyone or anything at the time.
On Tuesday morning, around 8 a.m., nine days after the original report, the search continued after a report of a body in the water. Just after 9 a.m., boat crews with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services recovered a body. Officials said the body found could link to the initial report.
The body was taken to Baltimore for positive identification. On Wednesday, the Montgomery County Police Department said the body was identified as 30-year-old Ankit Bagai.
According to authorities, Bagai was last seen on April 9, around 11:30 a.m., on Panthers Ridge Drive. No foul play is said to be suspected in the incident.
