TEMPLE HILLS, Md. — Two 14-year-olds were arrested after the pair allegedly pulled out a gun and carjacked a rideshare driver, which turned into a police pursuit in Temple Hills, Maryland, on Saturday.
At about 12:20 p.m., officers were alerted to an armed carjacking in the 6400 block of Gifford Drive in Temple Hills by a victim who had called 911, according to Prince George's County Police Department.
The rideshare driver had picked up two teens when they both pulled out their guns and demanded she gives up her car, police said. The rideshare driver, who was in fear for her life, handed the car to the teens. She was not injured during the time of the incident.
As officers were canvassing the area, they spotted the carjacked car in the 5200 block of Temple Hills Road. As Prince George's County officers turned around to initiate a stop, the teens drove away, authorities said.
Ultimately, the 14-year-olds lost control of the car, crashed into a woodline, and jumped out of the vehicle. Police say the two teens started running in an attempt to escape but were caught a short distance away. The teenage boys were apprehended and taken into custody.
Officers recovered a replica handgun that appeared to be a BB gun at the scene. The teens were charged with carjacking and were committed to a juvenile detention center.
