Alleged bank robber passed notes with hashtags, police say

Leroy Earl-Morris Daley

PALMER PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man who authorities say robbed multiple banks in Prince George's and Montgomery counties allegedly demanded money by passing notes with hashtags like "#nopolice" and "#becareful."

Leroy Earl-Morris Daley of Palmer Park has been linked with at least nine bank robberies in the two counties, including three on Thursday that happened within a 25-minute stretch of one another, police from both counties said.

Detectives have nicknamed robberies the "Hashtag String" because of the hashtags that appeared on the notes Daley, 45, allegedly passed to bank tellers. According to police, some of those hashtags threatened death.

On Thursday at around 11:10, Daley allegedly began his bank robbing spree at the Suntrust Bank on Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase. Police say he then traveled almost three miles up Connecticut Ave to rob a Capital One Bank in Kensington.

From there, Daley allegedly turned onto University Boulevard and robbed the BB&T Bank in the 2900 block of that road.

Daley was arrested after an officer in Prince George's County saw a car matching the description of one wanted in connection with the robberies. He was in custody minutes after the officer spotted the vehicle.

Prince George's County police also believe Daley is connected to the following five robberies in their county:

- September 25, 2015, around 10:30 am in the 7700 block of Landover Road in Landover

- December 21, 2015, around 11:25 am in the 10800 block of Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville

- January 9, 2016, around 9:30 am in the 10600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Bowie

- February 23, 2016, around 12:00 pm in the 8900 block of Apollo Drive in Upper Marlboro

- March 10, 2016, around 10:45 am In the 8200 block of Annapolis Road in New Carrollton

Montgomery County police have charged Daley with two counts of armed bank robbery and one count of strong-armed bank robbery. He has not yet been charged in Prince George's County, but police there say he will likely be charged with the five robberies.
