Driver calls 911 after witnessing car crash into retention pond, adult and dog rescued

First responders say the driver was lucky because, without a witness calling 911, it is likely the car wouldn't have been noticed until the next day.

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. — Police rescued an adult and dog after the car they were in crashed into a retention pond near Montgomery Village Thursday night.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, a driver called 911 after noticing a car had crashed into a retention pond near the southbound I-270 ramp to Montgomery Village Avenue.

When first responders arrived, they pulled an adult and a dog from the vehicle.

Investigators believe the driver had a medical emergency before driving off the road and into the water. Thankfully, the 911 caller witnessed the crash and stopped, staying on the scene until crews arrived.

First responders say the driver was lucky because, without the witness calling 911, it is likely the car wouldn't have been noticed until the next day.

Both the adult and dog were evaluated after being pulled from the car and are expected to be ok.
