77-year-old pedestrian struck, killed in Fort Washington roadway by driver of vehicle

Responding officers say the driver remained at the scene.

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — A 77-year-old man has died after the driver of a vehicle struck him while he was in a Fort Washington roadway Thursday morning.

Officers with the Prince George's County Police Department responded to Bock Road, nearby Belfast Drive and off of St Barnabas Road, around 7 a.m. after a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Through an initial investigation, police determined that the driver of a sedan was travelling southbound on the road, when for reasons that are under investigation, struck the man in the roadway.

The pedestrian, identified as Foday Salim, of Fort Washington, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead a short time after.

Responding officers say the driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene. No information has been released about whether there will be any forthcoming charges due to the deadly collision.
