FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. — A house fire in Mount Airy, Maryland has left four adults and two children without a home on Christmas, Frederick County fire officials said.
The 2-alarm fire was reported around 10:53 a.m. on Christmas Day, authorities said. When crews arrived at the home, they noticed flames coming from the single-family home located at 6212 Woodville Road.
It took about 50 firefighters from Frederick County, Carroll County, Montgomery County, and Howard County to knock out the flames in an hour upon initial arrival.
One firefighter was injured and taken to the hospital as a result of the fire, officials said.
The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the displaced residents, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In 2014, an early morning Christmas fire claimed the life of an 84-year-old Prince George's County woman.
Firefighters were called to a residence in the 900 block of Booker Drive around 2:15 a.m. and arrived to find a two-story duplex with fire showing and the report of a female trapped on the second floor, according to Prince George's Co. fire spokesperson Mark Brady.
Preliminary investigation indicates the fire started on the first floor, according to Brady. A working smoke alarm was activated and sent a signal to the occupants of the home. An adult male was awakened and made attempts to reach his 87-year-old mother, however, the intense heat and thick smoke were too much and he was forced to exit the home.
