'Did you feel it?' | 2.3 magnitude earthquake confirmed in Montgomery County

Leaders in Montgomery County say they've gotten no damage reports.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — If you think you felt the ground shake overnight... you weren't imagining things.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed a small earthquake shook Rockville, Maryland early Tuesday. The epicenter of the 2.3 magnitude quake was reported right around Lakewood Country Club just before 1 a.m.

WUSA9 spotted people in Gaithersburg, Northwest D.C., and event parts of Ellicott City and Frederick, Maryland reporting that they felt the quake. We even received direct reports from viewers asking about it.

The Maryland Geological Survey says while strong earthquakes are unusual in the state, occasionally Maryland can get earthquakes like this that are strong enough to feel.

Leaders in Montgomery County say they've gotten no damage reports.
