ELLICOTT CITY, Md. -- Nearly 8 inches of rain fell over Ellicott City, Maryland in six hours Sunday evening, causing major flooding down the city's Main Street.
This isn't the first time something like this happened. In 2016, more than 6 inches of rain fell in two to three hours. Here's how the floods compare.
In the 2016 floods, two people died after flood waters ripped through the heart of the city.
The victims -- Jessica Watsula, 35, of Lebanon, Pa. and Joseph Anthony Blevins, 38, of Windsor Mill.-- were found dead on the Baltimore County side of the Patapsco River.
As of right now, no deaths have been reported.
The 2016 flooding was called a 50 to 75 year storm while the 2018 floods is known as a 200 year storm which is even worse.

Officials said 96 percent of destroyed business rebuilt after being affected by the flooding in 2016. Even 20 new businesses have been added to the area.
Ironically, FEMA just donated some $1 million to the county and state for flooding.
Being located next to the Patapsco River and other nearby rivers, plus being in a valley, makes the city especially vulnerable to catastrophic flash floods.
If you would like to help Ellicott City residents, the Howard County Food Bank will accept donations Monday—Memorial Day—from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Water, cleaning supplies and flashlights are among the items needed most.
