Man killed crossing the street, wife injured in Gaithersburg crash

A 78-year-old man and his wife were hit by a car while walking across Muddy Branch Road.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Officials are investigating after two people were hit by the driver of a car in Montgomery County Wednesday. 

According to a spokesperson from the Montgomery County Fire Department (MCFD), the collision happened around 2 p.m. near the area of Muddy Branch Road and King James Way in Gaithersburg.

A husband and wife were hit by a car going southbound on Muddy Branch Road. The man, identified as 78-year-old Phillip Kwang Bon Uh, died from his injuries while his wife was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to Montgomery County Police Spokesmen Carlos Cortes.

Cortes says the pair were hit by the car in the roadway but it is unclear if the two victims were in a crosswalk.

The driver remained on the scene following the incident. 

The roadway was closed while investigators looked into the crash.
