2 dogs resuscitated after Montgomery County house fire, 3 cats dead

The fire caused about $75,000 worth of damage, according to firefighters.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Two dogs were resuscitated after being pulled from a house fire in Kensington late Tuesday morning, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services.

Fire officials responded to Dewey Road, off of Denfield Avenue, around 11:15 a.m. after a postal worker reported that they noticed smoke and heard smoke alarms sounding from a two-story home. At the scene, firefighters rushed into action by battling the flames and working to rescue the pets that were inside the house.

Two dogs were found unconscious inside the home leading firefighters to pull them from the smoky house. Both dogs were treated and could be seen with oxygen masks on. The dogs were revived at the scene and then taken to a nearby emergency vet for treatment.

Unfortunately, three cats did not survive the fire and no one was inside at the time of the incident.

Fire officials determined that the fire started on a stove top when combustibles were too close, on a fridge, and extended to cabinets. As a result of the fire, a family has been displaced from their home which had around $75,000 worth of damages, according to the fire department.
