MANASSAS, Va. — Two students were charged and arrested Friday with bringing a firearm at the Unity Reed High School in Manassas, Virginia, authorities said.

The two boys, 14, allegedly exchanged the weapon while on school grounds Wednesday, according to Prince William County police.

School security was notified and called the police. A School Resource Officer (SRO) and school security identified the teens and recovered the firearm without incident, police said.

The weapon was never brandished toward other students or used in an active threat at the school, police said.

An SRO discovered one of the teens was involved in another incident with the same gun on Tuesday as they were investigating the incident, according to police. Further details about the incident weren't immediately released.

Both teens were charged with possessing a firearm on school property and possession of a gun by a juvenile. One of the teens is also facing reckless handling of a firearm charge, officials said. Prince William County police did not release the identities of the teens.

The teens are being held at the juvenile detention center.

Anyone with information regarding either incident is urged to contact Prince William County Police Department tipline at 703-792-7000.
