GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA9) -- In addition to the Gemmell's house, the plane that crashed in Gaithersburg hit two other houses. Those families are also facing a disaster. Their homes are severely damaged and they will be out of them for months.
A fundraiser is scheduled for the families at the Chick-fil-A at Germantown Town Center on December 22nd. A portion of all sales will be donated to all three families, the business said.
Their neighbors have also set up a GoFundMe page and start collecting gift cards to help them. They're looking for gift cards from Target, Walmart and local restaurants.
"To our knowledge there's been nothing really done to reach out and help them and they're displaced for a minimum of six months. So they can't go back into their homes and stay with relatives. One I believe is in a hotel and one is with relatives," said Carrie Buttrey.
The GoFundMe page called Gaithersburg Jet Crash Relief Fund was set up Thursday. Gift cards should be dropped off at the Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg (7501 Muncaster Mill Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20877) Monday - Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cash donations should be made to the GoFundMe page once it is set up Thursday.
A neighbor named Joyce said "I have been in touch with the families and know that they are in need of basic items to rebuild their lives, as they will be out of their homes for 4 to 6 months. One home was occupied by a married couple, their daughter and her fiancée and the other house, a single resident."
