Flood waters still threaten the banks of the Potomac

From Harpers Ferry to Alexandria, locals observed above average depths along the waterway.

The weekend’s wet weather has left much of the Potomac River swollen.

From Harpers Ferry to Alexandria, locals observed above average depths along the waterway.

At one point, at Harpers Ferry, the National Park Service had to close the foot bridge across the Potomac River.

The ferry service at White’s Ferry remains closed. At Washington Harbor, in Georgetown, flood barriers are still up to protect businesses from the water.

Fortunately, the Potomac River is on the decline.

As of 10pm, much of the river was below minor flood stage, with exception to Edwards Ferry.

Old Town Alexandria experienced flooding Tuesday afternoon. However, that part of the Potomac River is no longer categorized in any flood stage.
