Fairfax County man hit by cars, killed on Route 29

All the driver's stayed after the crash and waited for police to arrive.

CENTREVILLE, Va. — A Centreville man was identified by Fairfax County Police as the pedestrian killed on Route 29 Saturday Night.

An S.U.V. hit Tracy Roane, 56, as he was walking in a northbound lane on Route 29, near White Post Road, at around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday.

After the first car hit him, Roane was struck by other cars traveling on the highway, FCPD said in a Monday release. All the driver's involved stayed after to wait for police.

The stretch of highway near White Post Road features a pathway that runs alongside it, allowing people to walk next to the traffic. However, FCPD has said that Roane was not traveling within a crosswalk.

Detectives ruled out drunk driving as a factor in Roane's death, the investigation into possible causes of the crash was ongoing as of Monday.

"Speed is still under investigation," FCPD said on Monday. "Alcohol remains under investigation for the pedestrian."

FCPD has asked for the public's help in delivering additional information about what happened Saturday night.
