UPDATE 1 PM WEDNESDAY: The man who drowned Tuesday night in Douglas Lake has been identified as Daniel Payne Mills, 20, of Sevierville.
Mills was with two other young adults Tuesday night in a cove off Dyke Road at the lake, according to the Sevier County Sheriff''s Office. They tried to swim across the cove to the opposite shore when Mills began having trouble.
He went under the water and didn't resurface.
Authorities were alerted about 6 p.m.
Mills' companions tried to help the victim without success, according to the Sheriff's Office.
About 7:45 p.m. Tuesday the Sevier County Rescue Squad found Mills' body about 20 feet from shore submerged in about 30 feet of water.
"The investigation revealed that none of the swimmers were wearing life jackets," according to a release from the Sheriff's Office. "The investigation is continuing and an autopsy has been ordered by the medical examiner but there is no indication of anything other than an accidental drowning at this time."
PREVIOUS STORY: The body of an adult male drowning victim was recovered from Douglas Lake Tuesday night.
The Sevier County Sheriff's Office said the man was swimming with friends on Douglas Lake when he went underwater and did not resurface.
The sheriff's office was called to the scene off Dyke Road close to Mountain Cove Marina just after 6 p.m.
Rescue squads from Sevier and Jefferson counties searched the area for more than an hour before recovering the body of an adult man.

Lt. Jay Breeden with the Sevier County Sheriff's Office said the man went underwater before storms came in Tuesday night, so officials do not believe the drowning is weather-related.
Officials did not release the victim's name Tuesday night.
