WASHINGTON — After months of political campaigning, it’s time to clean up.
Brad Botwin of Montgomery County GOP says Maryland’s Republicans are still celebrating former President Donald Trump’s win, but now he has to sort through all the campaign materials.
“There are some people coming in, looking to pick up Trump hats and some campaign signs still; they’re very excited about the victory,” he said. “Others are coming because they manned different polls around the county, and we have the signage, and we didn’t want to leave it there for the schools to pick up, so we bring it back.”
When asked about the issues Trump’s voters were focused on, Botwin pointed out that reproductive healthcare wasn’t a priority.
“On the Republican side, it was as I mentioned: immigration, the economy, crime—those seem to be the top things,” Botwin said. “Abortion’s not going anywhere in Maryland, and that’s fine. That’s fine.”
Polling data shows that although Vice President Harris won Maryland, more than 37% of the state’s voters chose Trump, but last night’s win doesn’t end at the White House for the GOP.
Republicans now have majority control of the Senate and could take over the House.
Combined with a conservative majority in the Supreme Court, that means the GOP could completely control all three branches of government starting next year.
“I think that the country is in the grips of a cultural revolution, and we have been for about the last ten years—a really severe cultural revolution that’s taking place,” said Thomas Speciale of Vets for Trump. “This is not about Trump; this is about making America great again.”
Now that the election is over, Botwin says he’s looking forward to seeing what Trump has to offer.
