LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — Moving water swept away a Maryland man and drowned him while he was working on a dam in the Goose Creek Reservoir in Ashburn, Va. on Monday morning.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office did not identify the man, but said he was working for a commercial dive company that was contracted to clear debris from the dam area.

He was attached to a safety line when the water pulled him over the dam, officials said. His coworkers tried to save him, but he drowned.

Officials said it happened at about 6:45 a.m. on Monday in the 20500 block of Belmont Ridge Road.
