WASHINGTON — Metropolitan police have identified the pedestrian in a fatal hit-and-run accident on Suitland Parkway on Tuesday night.
Officers were called at 8:07 p.m. Tuesday to Suitland Parkway, where they saw an unconscious woman laying in the inbound lanes just before the Irving Street exit ramp SE, police said.
D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services were called, and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The victim was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The victim has been identified as 49 year-old Cheryln Ninette Bell, of SE, D.C., police said. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined.
Authorities learned that Bell was crossing from the south side of Suitland Parkway, heading towards Irving Street SE, when she was struck by a vehicle.
Inbound Suitland Parkway was shut down at Alabama Avenue while police conducted their investigation. The roadway reopened around 12:45 a.m.
Details on the type of vehicle that struck the woman have not yet been released. This case remains under investigation.
