WASHINGTON — A 32-year-old woman is facing several charges, including a murder charge, in the suspicious disappearance of Chyna Crawford who was last seen in D.C. in October 2023.
Crawford was reported missing to Metropolitan Police Department on Oct. 26, after last being seen just a few days prior on Oct. 23 around 10 p.m. Detectives say when it was reported she was said to be last seen in the 1600 block of Good Hope Road, but through the investigation they determined she was last seen in the 4000 block of South Capitol Street Southwest.
As the investigation initiated, Missing Persons Unit detectives suggested suspicious circumstances surrounding the 25-year-old's disappearance.
"During the investigation, there was some information we received that led us to believe there may be some suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance," Assistant Chief Carlos Heraud previously told WUSA9.
As the investigation continued, it was also assigned to detectives in the Homicide Branch.
While the police worked the case, Crawford's family continued to rally community in hopes of bringing her home. On Nov. 4, her family and friends met up in the area near where she went missing to canvass the community and pass out flyers. They also searched nearby woods for any sightings of her.
Her mom, Elisa Crawford, described her daughter to WUSA9 in November as being a "tough cookie" who also had the sweetest soul.
On Tuesday, members of the U.S. Marshals Service located and arrested Lashawn Washington, of Southeast D.C., after the investigation identified her in connection to the disappearance. DC Police say Washington has been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and obstruction of justice.
This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.
