WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The wife of a popular White House staffer who died in September gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on Saturday morning.
Her name is Garnet J. Brewer. Her mom, Mary Katharine Ham, chose this name to honor and remember her husband, Jake Brewer, who was killed in a bicycle race accident.

The newborn's first name comes from a "memorable" hike Mary and Jake did in Wyoming when Mary was just 7 months pregnant. Garnet's middle initial is for her dad, Jake.
In an Instagram post, Mary thanks her followers for their prayers and love. "We will always miss Jake, but we know we are taken care of and so does he," she said.
Garnet was born at 5:15 a.m. on Saturday at 7 pounds and 13 ounces.
