WASHINGTON — Did you know every night is ladies' night in D.C. and Maryland?
According to a new WalletHub study, the nation's capital and the Old Bay-lovin state rank in the top 10 best states for women, with Massachusetts at the very top of the list.
WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 indicators of living standards for women to come up with their findings. And it turns out women have some of the best opportunities right in our own backyard.
"Women in the U.S. still face a lot of adversity, so living in the right state can greatly impact their quality of life," said WalletHub Analyst Cassandra Happe. Adding, "The best states for women provide equitable economic conditions, encourage robust political participation, have quality health care, and ensure safety for the women who reside there.”
Here are the top 10 states where women not only survive but are said to thrive in the U.S.:
- Massachusetts
- District of Columbia
- Minnesota
- Vermont
- Maine
- Maryland
- New York
- Hawaii
- New Jersey
- Delaware
In addition, the study found women make the most money in the District of Columbia, followed by Minnesota and Virginia.
D.C. also boasts the highest share of women who voted in the last presidential election, at 86%, and the highest percentage of women in good or better health, at over 87%. And the District has the fourth-lowest obesity rate for women.
