WASHINGTON — As police continue to search for the robbers who stole a 14-year-old dog from its owner near the Fort Totten Metro Station in Northeast D.C. Saturday night, investigators have released video they say captured the person responsible.
The surveillance video shows an intersection before zooming in on two people, one of whom later gets into a car and drives away.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Zaleena Ahmed was walking her West Highland White Terrier named Max when she said a man in a mask and hoodie approached her and said something she didn't understand. He then proceeded to snatch her dog's leash and started pulling. As she pulled back, she says Max's harness came off and when she attempted to pick him up, the man hit her on the right-hand side of her forehead with the gun.
Max was later found by David Graham who said he recognized the stolen dog from news coverage.
"It looked familiar. I said it looked like the dog that was on the news, but it was friendly so that's why I thought it was the dog that was on the news. So I just put him in the car and brought him up here," Graham said.
Anyone who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia.
