A man, believed to be an Uber driver, was arrested for an alleged sex offense on American University's campus, police said.
According to officials, the suspect was banned from Uber two years ago.
The incident reportedly happened at 4400 Massachusetts Ave. in Northwest, D.C. between 3 and 4 a.m.
Officials said the victim believed the man was an Uber driver, however Uber confirmed that the man was not an active driver. In fact, he had been banned from the app two years ago, but police said he kept an Uber sticker on his Honda Civic anyway.
According to the Metropolitan police report, the victim was ordered out of the car and raped with an unknown body part.
Prosecutors have charged El Houcine Jourhdaly, 36, with kidnapping with intent to engage in sex with the 21-year-old victim.
Police said the victim and her boyfriend had been drinking and were arguing when Jourhdaly kicked the boyfriend out of the car and assaulted the woman.
Officials said Jourhdaly told them the encounter was consensual.
