WASHINGTON — The TRIGGER Project is hosting its annual conference and festival Friday to promote the end of gun violence.
Falling on National Gun Violence Awareness Day, the festival brings together survivors and those who have lost loved ones to gun violence.
“The reason we do this day is to reduce the silos and strengthen the coordination that it takes to really protect our youth from being infected from this disease of gun violence,” said Tia Bell, the founder of The TRIGGER Project.
The event also features local businesses, artists and musicians to bring together the community to heal from these tragedies.
“We want to start with healing and information because we can rewire our brains to believe that gun violence is not possible,” Bell said.
According to Bell, this will be the last year the event will be held as the organization shifts its focus toward more community-led initiatives that have been developed over the past four years.
