D.C., DC โ It's been a rough few years for the Roberson's.
On Saturday, June 1, Gary Roberson was shot and killed on Atlantic Street in Southeast.
His brother, Maurice Roberson, says it happened near their mother's home.
"It happened outside her home. She heard a lot of gunshots and her motherly instincts kicked in and she went outside and seen him laying there, so she ran and sprinted over," said Maurice Roberson.
He told WUSA9 his brother was nicknamed 'Choo Choo.'
"The story is he used to run after trains when he was a little kid," he said with a smile on his face.
"Choo Choo was as a person very energetic. He was the life of the party and when I say life of the party, I mean life of the party," said Maurice Roberson of his older brother.
Gary is the third sibling he's lost since 2012.
In October, his sister A'nee Roberson, a transgender woman, was killed near the intersection of U Street and 9th Street in Northwest.
Police say she was assaulted around 4 a.m., and ended up in the street where she was struck by the driver of a passing car, and died.
The driver of the car that hit Roberson stayed at the scene. Police said the driver was not involved in the initial assault, which investigators say caused Roberson to end up in the street.
A candlelight vigil was held at the intersection where she was killed, a few weeks later.
"Say her name! A'nee Roberson!" people chanted.
In October, police released video and images of a 'person of interest'. On Saturday, D.C. Police told WUSA9 there were no updates in the case, and that no arrests have been made.
Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
Anyone who may know more about what happened is asked to call Detective Sean Rutter at 202-657-3102 or Detective Sidney Catlett at 202-302-9651. Anonymous tips can be submitted via the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or text the tip line at 50411.
Maurice Roberson says it feels like his family can't catch a break. He told WUSA9 his youngest sister, Rose, was killed in a car crash in 2011.
"She was violently chased in a vehicle and it crashed on Southern Avenue and burst into flames," said Maurice Roberson.
"I mean I've cried like a baby to be frank," he explained.
He told WUSA9 that he and his family love D.C., but feel like something needs to change.
"More needs to be done to address the conditions that are making lethal violence a viable solution for people," said Maurice Roberson.
He says it's his and his family's faith that keeps them going.
"It's not getting easier for some reason but my faith tells me that the road will soon clear up and things will get better," he said.
