WASHINGTON — Two teens are facing charges after police say they were behind a string of carjackings that happened Monday night. In one of the carjackings, the teens reportedly used one of the stolen cars to block another victim's car 40 minutes later.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the cars were stolen between 6:50 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. in Northeast and Northwest D.C.
Police say the first victim was getting out of her car in the 1200 block of Hamlin Street, Northeast when three people surrounded her and demanded she hand over her keys. The victim ran away before the suspects were able to get her car.
A little more than two hours later, another victim was loading groceries into her car in the 3800 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest, when three people surrounded her and again demanded she hand over her car keys. This time, the victim complied and the suspects drove away in her vehicle.
Just 40 minutes later, police say the suspects then used the carjacked vehicle to block a third victim as she was getting into her car in the 1200 block of Otis Street, Northeast. The carjackers reportedly assaulted the victim before stealing her car.
The second victim's car was later found, and MPD arrested two 17-year-old suspects in connection to the string of carjackings. The third suspect reportedly fled into Maryland, where he was taken into custody by Mount Ranier Police officers.
The teens arrested in D.C. have been charged with unarmed carjacking. There is no word on what charges the third suspect may be facing.
