WASHINGTON — Oct. 21 is a day that will forever be etched in Donna Clark's mind, as the worst day of her life.
"I lost my son to gun violence. His name is Malik Clark. He got murdered in front of my house," said Donna Clark.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. Monday, along Bruce Place SE near the corner of Ainger Place.
"I got a phone call when I was at work, saying my son was lying dead in the middle of the street," said Donna Clark.
She called WUSA9 a short time after the shooting, explaining to us that despite the excruciating pain she was in, she wanted to make sure the world knew his name.
Her son, Malkijah Clark, went by Malik or Lik, his mother said.
"I want the whole world to know losing a child is very hard. It's a nightmare," she explained, as she wiped away tears.
She told WUSA9 her son is a father to a little girl and a little boy.
"Now I'm going to have to lay him to rest. He's gone forever. His son. All he's gonna know is pictures of him," said Donna Clark.
She said he leaves behind not only his kids but five brothers and sisters.
"He's a father. A son. A brother. His brothers and sisters are gonna miss him. His friends, his close friends is texting. Everybody gonna miss him. He's gone forever," she said.
She said her son loved football and his favorite team was the Cowboys. He loved to spend time hanging out outside and to travel.
"He got a hard head but his heart and soul is very big," she explained.
"I loved my child. He's my heart and now my heart is broken," said Donna Clark.
The Metropolitan Police Department said anyone with information about the shooting should call (202) 727-9099 or text the tip line at 50411. They are currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
