Police search for suspects who fired shots near MacFarland Middle School in DC

Investigators are looking for two suspects who were caught on surveillance video

WASHINGTON — Metropolitan Police Department officers are responding to a report of shots fired behind MacFarland Middle School in Northwest D.C. Wednesday morning.

Police received two calls, one from MacFarland and one from Roosevelt High School of people hearing gunshots in the area around 9:30 a.m. Commander Carlos Heraud with MPD said their investigation revealed shots were fired behind MacFarland Middle School.

DC Public Schools confirms that the school was placed on lockdown due to the investigation. Roosevelt High School and Dorothy Heights Elementary School were also placed on lockdown. Powell Elementary School was placed on alert Wednesday morning, DCPS said.  All lockdowns have since been lifted, according to Heraud.

Police said they have recovered one shell casing in the school's parking lot. They also said two vehicles were struck by gunfire in the parking lot. Heraud said at least three shots were fired.

The investigation is ongoing and police have not released any additional information about what led up to the shots being fired. Heraud said investigators are reviewing video footage and are searching for two suspects in connection to this case.

The investigation is still ongoing. Heraud said they are working with DCPS to speak with any students and staff who may have seen anything.

Heraud asks anyone who may have information about who fired the shots to contact them at 202-727-9099.
