Report: Brake on fire truck may have caused collision with MPD car

A crash report prepared by D-C police says faulty brakes on a fire engine might have caused last week's collision between that fire engine and a D-C police car.   A police officer and a fire fighter suffered non-life threatening injuries.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Faulty brakes on a fire truck may have caused the crash last week between the fire truck and a D.C. police car, according to a report by D.C. police.

The truck was pulled to the left because of an imbalance in the breaking system, the report said. A cage engaged on the rear right axle may have contributed to the truck being pulled when the breaks were applied.

The report comes after a WUSA9 investigation that revealed fire personnel reported an air leak and a faulty valve bracket on the truck hours before the crash. The leak, however, was not sufficient enough to place the truck out of service, according to D.C. fire.

D.C. fire now says it is now checking the brakes on all of its vehicles.

A police officer and a firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash, which happened last Monday in the 2700 block of Porter Street NW.
