WASHINGTON — Police announced an arrest Wednesday days after a car hit a mother, son and dog before driving away in Northeast D.C.
A spokesperson with the Metropolitan Police Department, 64-year-old Samuel Holloway, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with leaving after colliding.
The crash happened on Oct. 4 while a woman was crossing the street with her two children at C and 12th Streets when an SUV hit them. The mother, who did not want to be identified, said the impact knocked her out of her shoes. She said bystanders rushed to her son who was under a tire.
“I was trying to get my son’s foot dislodged from the tire. Someone yelled at the driver to pull over," mom said.
In a video, the driver appears to pull over but then drives off. Neighbors say the intersection is a problem. Drivers often skip the stop sign.
“His left foot was trapped under the wheel of the vehicle. My dog, I thought he was dead. I wasn’t sure how badly my son was injured. My daughter was screaming.” the mother said.
Mom tells WUSA9 that her son is expected to make a full recovery and that police told her the SUV was recovered with her dog's hair on it.
Anyone with information can contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
Holloway is expected in court Thursday afternoon.
