WASHINGTON -- Family and friends came together Friday night to remember a young victim of gun violence in Northeast, D.C.
Makiyah Wilson was shot and killed in July 2018. She would've turned 11-years-old on May 31.
More than 100 people marched in her honor in the city's Clay Terrace neighborhood.

Makiyah's mother, Donnetta, had a simple request for others in the city.
"Stop the violence," she said. "Please stop the violence."
So far, 11 people have been charged in connection to Makiyah's murder.
In the meantime, Makiyah's father, Michael, said he's confident the community supporting his family will be able to make a change.
"We are the leaders of the city right here," he said. "We got to step up and speak out."
