WASHINGTON — A person is dead after being hit by a train in Northeast D.C. Monday evening.

According to D.C. Fire and EMS, an Amtrak operator reported hitting a person around 6:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Adams Place, Northeast. The victim was later found in the 2000 block of Bladensburg Road, Northeast, roughly .2-mile away.

Amtrak said Monday evening that trains traveling in and out of the station and BWI Marshall Airport are experiencing delays due to the deadly collision as investigators requested a hold on all train travel in the area during the investigation.

It is unclear when the service will return to normal and riders should expect significant delays. Some trains were canceled Tuesday morning due to the service disruption.

No information has been released regarding the person who was hit and killed or the circumstances leading up to the collision.
