WASHINGTON — At least six people will not be able to go home Tuesday night after a tree fell in Southeast, D.C.
According to DC Fire and EMS, the tree fell on three semi-detached homes in the 1000 block of Branch Street in Southeast.
No injuries were reported, and all occupants of the homes were evacuated safety.
Pepco responded to the scene.
Authorities say six people, a dog, and three Bobwhite quails have been displaced as a result of the tree falling.
All six residents have somewhere to stay for the time being.
It is unknown how much damage was caused to the homes or how long it will take to repair.
Downed tree
On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser's Office responded to say the owner was fully aware the tree needed to be removed.
"This was a tree on private land. The urban forestry division gave the property owner multiple permits to remove the tree and also waived the fee; the property owner failed to take down the tree."
