Hit-and-run crash injured bicyclist in Northwest DC

Police say the striking vehicle fled the scene before police arrived.

WASHINGTON — A man has been hospitalized after a vehicle struck him while he was on a bicycle Tuesday night in Northwest D.C.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to New Jersey Avenue Northwest, nearby Morgan Street Northwest, just before 9:50 p.m. after a report of a crash. Upon arrival at the scene, they found a man who was unconscious, but was breathing at the time. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The man's current condition is not known at this time. In addition, the identity of the bicyclist has not been released, this includes his age, name, and where he is from.

The striking vehicle in the crash fled the area before police arrived, leading MPD's Major Crash Department to investigate the collision as a hit and run. No information has been released about the potential suspect vehicle in the case, including a possible make and model or color.

Police are working to determine the cause of the collision. The investigation into the case is active and ongoing.
