Grad student dies after being hit while riding a bike

Huseynov was taken to the hospital where doctors worked on him tirelessly. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

WASHINGTON — The cyclist struck by a car last Tuesday has passed away from his injuries.

On October 17 D.C. Police received a call of a cyclist that had been hit by a car. The accident occurred on L Street, NW just before 12:45 a.m. 

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Nijad Huseynov. He was a graduate student at ADA University studying Master of Science in Computer Science and Data Analytics. Huseynov was pursuing a dual degree at George Washington University during the time of his death. 

Through the officer's preliminary investigation, they determined the cyclist was in the bicycle lane. Huseynov was crossing Connecticut Avenue when he was hit by a silver Toyota Camry. He was ejected from his bike, landing on the pavement. 

The driver involved in the accident did stay on the scene. 

Huseynov was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

Metro Police are still investigating this crash.
