WASHINGTON — Residents of an apartment building in Navy Yard were asked to shelter in place on Tuesday while police search for an armed suspect. About an hour later, police left the scene empty-handed.
DC Police told WUSA9 that they are assisting U.S. Capitol Police in an investigation in the 800 block of New Jersey, Southeast.
According to the U.S. Capitol Police, patrol officers spotted a vehicle in the area that was connected to a previous shooting in D.C. The officers kept an eye on the vehicle until people approached the car. Upon seeing the officer, USCP says the people ran away.
The suspects were followed to the apartment complex, that alerted residents to shelter in place while officers began to search the area. In an email to its residents, the apartment complex advised them to stay inside "with the doors locked until further notice."
MPD and USCP worked together to search the area but none of the suspects were found.
