WWII-era munitions found on AU campus

The Army Corps of Engineers and DC Fire safely removed the debris found near Fletcher Gate.

WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, construction crews working on American University campus came across World World II-era munitions.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Army Corps of Engineers assessed the site and worked with DC Fire to safely remove the items.

The Army Corps says they posed no known threat to campus safety, and the work was contained to the construction zone.

Crews came across the 9 munitions-related items and debris while working on the south side of campus, near Fletcher Gate.
