WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A D.C. man pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of felony assault and driving under the influence after a New Year's Day crash outside a crowded downtown bar that seriously injured three people.

According to police, Malik Lloyd drove up on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of L Street NW in front of Barcode, hitting several pedestrians, a tree and a light pole.

At least 13 people were injured in the crash, either through a direct collision with Lloyd's vehicle or by flying debris caused by the accident.

After the crash, while being treated by medical personnel, Lloyd told D.C. police officers he had two glasses of champagne, prosecutors say. A test at Howard University Hospital after the accident found Lloyd had a BAC of .20.

In a separate case, Lloyd also pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Sentencing is scheduled for both cases on May 25.
