DC man killed in crash while loading back of his vehicle

The man was behind his vehicle loading or unloading the back when a truck crashed into him and his vehicle.

WASHINGTON — A man in his 70s was killed in a crash while he was loading or unloading the back of his vehicle, the Metropolitan Police Department said Monday.

The crash happened Friday afternoon in the 900 block of K Street, Northeast.

Investigators claim that around 1:30 p.m., a man was at the back of his 2004 Cadillac Escalade unloading or loading items into the rear cargo area.

Police believe the Cadillac was stopped on the road and not along the curb.

A 2013 Ford Explorer was traveling east and reportedly ran into the back of the parked Cadillac striking the man, causing him to be pinned between the front of the Ford and the rear of the Cadillac.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and took the man to an area hospital, where he died. The man has since been identified as Ralph Patrick Williams, 72, of Northeast, DC.

The driver of the Ford remained at the scene following the crash.

Anyone with information should call the police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
