WASHINGTON — A man was shot and killed in Northeast D.C. Thursday evening, sparking a homicide investigation for the Metropolitan Police Department.
Police responded to Quarles Street Northeast, off of Kenilworth Avenue Northeast and nearby the D.C.-Maryland state line, around 6:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a shooting in the area.
At the scene, a man, later identified as 21-year-old Umar Epps, of Southeast, D.C., was found inside a home suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical officials said that he was unconscious, not breathing, and showing no signs consistent with life.
Epps was transported from the scene to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, according to police, turning a shooting investigation into a homicide.
Police have not stated if there is a motive behind the deadly shooting or a person of interest in the case.
