WASHINGTON — A 34-year-old man is facing several charges after a Northeast D.C. shooting left a man injured early Saturday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD.)
Through an investigation, police determined that the suspect in the case and the shooting victim were arguing on New York Avenue Northeast, not too far away from Hecht Avenue Northeast, just before 1:30 a.m. During the argument, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the man.
The man accused of pulling the trigger in the shooting fled the scene, but he was captured by responding officers. When he was located by police a handgun was also recovered.
The unidentified man, who was shot, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his wounds.
The shooter in the case has been identified as Vann Allen, of Southeast D.C., according to police. He has been arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of unregistered ammunition.
Across the District, there has been a total of 4,632 recorded cases of violent crime for the year as of Nov. 9, which is an increase of 40% compared to the previous year, according to MPD's database. Within the same time last year there were 3,329 recorded cases.
