WASHINGTON — On Sunday, police identified a man they say died after driving away from a crash in the 3rd Street Tunnel.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, 48-year-old Ronald Jerome Jordan Jr. was driving a Chevy Malibu northbound in the tunnel on Friday evening.

Investigators say just before 5:30 p.m. Jordan rear-ended a Ford Transit Wagon but did not stop, instead driving away. A minute later, Jordan's Malibu crossed lanes of traffic and he reportedly began driving in the shoulder lane. When he attempted to get back into the main lanes of traffic, his Malibu mounted the east curb and struck a light pole.

Jordan, who resided in Capitol Heights, Maryland, was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

Anyone with information, or who witnessed the crash, may contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
