Man dead, woman hospitalized after shooting in Adams Morgan

Police are working to identify a suspect and motive in the deadly shooting investigation.

WASHINGTON — A man has died and a woman was hospitalized after a shooting in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Northwest D.C. early Saturday morning.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to 18th Street Northwest, nearby Belmont Road Northwest, around 1:20 a.m. after a report of a shooting involving two people. 

At the scene, two people were found - a man, later identified as 30-year-old Avon Perkins, of Baltimore, was pronounced dead at the location and a woman suffering from her injuries. The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that have been described as non-life-threatening.

The woman's identity has not been released, this includes her age and name.

Police are working to identify a suspect and motive in the deadly shooting investigation.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.
