Arrest made in Southeast DC homicide case from July 2023

The arrest came over five months after the deadly shooting took place.

WASHINGTON — A 33-year-old was killed in July in Southeast D.C., and now police say they have arrested the culprit for the crime.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to Hartford Street Southeast, off of Alabama Avenue Southeast, around 12:15 p.m. on July 3, 2023, after a report of shooting in the area. Upon arrival, they found a man suffering from injuries due to the shooting.

DC Fire and EMS responded to the location and the victim, later identified as Langston Sharps, of Southeast D.C., was pronounced dead. Sharps' death was ruled a homicide.

On Thursday, Jahi Settles, 22, was arrested for the crime in accordance to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. Police say he was taken to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with second-degree murder while armed.
