Man arrested for Southwest DC shooting death

A man was arrested and charged Tuesday for the shooting death of a Southwest D.C. man.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A man was arrested and charged Tuesday for the shooting death of a Southwest D.C. man.

Gary Nathaniel Proctor, 37, of Southwest, D.C. was charged with murder II while armed, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of First Street SW. Police say the shooting happened around 4:52 p.m., according to authorities.

Upon arrival, officers found an adult male unconscious and not breathing with at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified has been as 47-year-old Jerome Diggs of Southwest, D.C.

Police say they have no motives or suspects in the shooting.
